This presentation will make an overview of the services demand-side flexibility can provide to the power system, starting from distribution network all the way to large interconnected transmission systems. It will emphasise the importance of proper demand-side profiling and load modelling in any demand side management (DSM) programme. The presentation will start with the main findings of a EU Horizon 2020 project NobelGrid, focusing on the advances in demand-side monitoring and profiling. It will then continue with the results of another EU project, CROSSBOW, covering the main principles of DSM (or demand response) programmes in distribution networks  and extending to the use of cross-border DSM for congestion management and more sustainable operation of interconnected transmission systems.
