STUDY ON ESTIMATION AND IMPROVEMENT OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION

On 15.05.2024. on the premises of ZP “Elektrodistribucija Pale” in Pale, a session of technical council of the distribution of Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske was held. There were presented the results of the “Study on estimation and improvement of energy efficiency in electricity distribution” made by Electrical Engineering Institute “Nikola Tesla” JSC Belgrade. After the end of the presentation and a short discussion, the study was accepted by the technical council, meaning another project in the field of electrical distribution networks was successfully realized.
Existing legal regulations in the field of energy efficiency were reviewed in the study. The methodology for determining energy efficiency through the series of proposed measures was also provided. Systematization of critical points with potential for improving energy efficiency was performed using created models in the specialized software for the analysis of distribution networks. Electricity losses, as one of the main indicators of energy efficiency, were systematized according to the voltage level and type of MV network element. This was the basis on which the energy efficiency estimation was given. By simulating proposed measures, the technical and economic benefits of the distribution network on the territory of the Republic of Srpska were given, as well as the energy efficiency estimation following the proposed measures. As examples of the effects of the proposed measures, the consumption areas of five 110/X kV substations (one in each of the five branches) were chosen, which represented the pilot projects.
Prominent members of the technical council of the distribution of Elektroprivreda Republika Srpska discussed about the importance of the study and stated among other things: “This is, as expected, exceptional document and it would be unfortunate not to implement the recommendations obtained from the conducted analyses. It is particularly important to emphasize the complementarity of the recommendations from the document with the recommendations from the ten-year development study, which is the base of the three-year development plan, which will be prepared in forthcoming period”. Namely, it should be recalled that the study of ten-year development of the electricity distribution system of the Republic of Srpska was completed and adopted at the end of 2023, and was also prepared by the Electrical Engineering Institute “Nikola Tesla” JSC Belgrade.
