Successfull commission of the first 310 MW excitation system unit at the Bajina Basta PHPP

We are pleased to announce that the team of collaborators from the Nikola Tesla Institute of Electrical Engineering has successfully commissioned the first 310 MW excitation system unit at the Bajina Basta Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant (PHPP)! The nominal current of the static excitation system is 1537 A, while the nominal voltage is 330 V. The excitation system fully supports the operation of the unit in both motor and generator modes. Redundant power supply for the excitation winding has been implemented through two thyristor bridges and two excitation regulators. In normal operation, one group of regulator-thyristor bridge is active, while the second group serves as a reserve at all times.

After a successful trial run, the unit and excitation system are now in continuous operation, a milestone we are very proud of. This major project demonstrates our commitment to developing and improving our specialized equipment, while preserving a tradition that spans nearly nine decades. By the end of this year, we expect the delivery and commissioning of the excitation system for the second unit.

We would like to express our gratitude to Elektroprivreda Srbije, the project client, for their trust. Special thanks go to our colleagues from PHPP Bajina Basta for excellent cooperation and understanding. We look forward to the new, exciting project
