Visit of the General Director of EPS AD to the Nikola Tesla Institute
On Friday, February 28, 2025, the Nikola Tesla Institute of Electrical Engineering (INT) had the honor of hosting a delegation from Elektroprivreda Srbije (JSC EPS), led by the General Director Dušan Živković. This visit provided an opportunity for the exchange of ideas on key challenges and opportunities in the electric power sector, with a special focus on strategies for achieving sustainability goals.
The Director of the Institute, Dr. Dragan Kovačević, presented the results of the transformation of INT within the SAIGE project, which is carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, and funded by the World Bank and the EU. He also emphasized the importance of the decades-long successful cooperation between EPS AD and the Institute, which has enabled the achievement of numerous shared goals.
The General Director of EPS AD, Dušan Živković, highlighted the significance of the “net zero 50” ambition, which aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, as well as the necessity of diversifying energy sources. The focus was placed on renewable sources, particularly hydropower, solar, and wind, which are key to the future development of energy infrastructure. The potential of hydrogen as an important energy source in the energy transition was emphasized, as it will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and increasing energy efficiency. The importance of introducing new technologies such as artificial intelligence and data centers, which can significantly improve the efficiency and resilience of power systems, was also highlighted. Furthermore, Director Živković pointed out the role of the circular economy as a potential opportunity for reducing waste materials and increasing resource efficiency. Finally, the General Director of EPS AD emphasized that the development of each country, including ours, will depend on how much kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy are available, as this represents the foundation for economic growth and technical progress.
It was jointly concluded that it is crucial to engage young professionals through innovative ideas and projects in the energy sector in order to ensure further development and progress of this industry.
The visit of the EPS delegation to the Nikola Tesla Institute once again demonstrated the importance of strategic cooperation between scientific research institutions and the energy industry. This cooperation is key to accelerating the development of sustainable and innovative solutions in the energy sector and is in the spirit of Nikola Tesla’s motto: “The progress and well-being of every individual, nation, society, and state depends on how they use energy resources.”
