Dejan Kolarski Receives IFIA Best Invention Award for “Desulfurization Process”

Dejan Kolarski, a researcher at the Nikola Tesla Institute of Electrical Engineering, has received the international IFIA Best Invention Award for his invention “Desulfurization Process”. The award was presented to him by the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) on 12 October 2026 at Tesla Fest in Novi Sad.

The invention was developed at the Institute. It removes elemental sulfur (S8) from mineral insulating oils used in power transformers. This form of sulfur can cause corrosion inside the transformer and compromise its reliability, so the process offers a practical solution to a real challenge in the power industry. The process is protected by patents in the Republic of Serbia and in the United Kingdom.

The invention also drew the attention of IFIA President Alireza Rastegar. In his conversation with Dejan Kolarski, he asked for further information about the invention and for photographs, so that it can be featured on the Federation’s website and in its magazine.

The Institute’s stand at Tesla Fest welcomed many visitors. Their interest in the solutions on display led to many questions and lively professional discussions.

We congratulate our colleague on this well-deserved recognition. His achievement confirms the value of the research carried out at the Nikola Tesla Institute and the importance of connecting science with the needs of industry.
